Fuel system preparation

Has your boat been sitting on land for a season or two?

By following these simple suggestions getting back on the water can be less of a headache.

Change the fuel/water separator, run the motor for 20 minutes, and change it again. Change all lubricants before putting it back into service. Dump in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. If there was no stabilizer in the fuel, drain the tank and refill it. Then you need to start the engine, and listen for any misses that would indicate a clogged injector. Afterward, check the injectors for varnish that could clog them.

Make sure your leads to your battery are secure and slightly more than finger tight. Loose wires can lead to a steady drain on your battery as well as the possibility of arcing. As we all know errant sparks in an engine room can be deadly.
